Psychotherapy

Welcome! So glad you're committed to your teen's well-being! Dr. Hartman always says: "Every teen benefits from therapy, some teens need it." So, let's get your teen the benefits... and see what he/she needs.

Adolescent Psychotherapists require specialized training and experience. For instance, youth ages  6 and 16 years old will vary significantly in development phase, communication and comprehension abilities. Therapy tends to take between 12 - 50 sessions, sometimes more, sometimes less... often the teen is alone with the Practioner and parent(s) meet with the Practioner in a separate consultation. Coaching

Congrats on exploring the role of coaching in your teen's well-being! Dr. Hartman wishes that in an ideal world, EVERY CHILD would have a 'wellness coach'. She has one... it's awesome for growing and manifesting your dreams!

Coaching is different than therapy. Coaching is often focused on solutions, dreams, life goals and performance enhancement. Therapy is often focused on healing, treatment and restoring functioning. Click here to learn more...

Teen-Parent Psychotherapy

It's wonderful you're considering Teen-Parent psychotherapy for you and your teen! It's often common that the relationship between the parent and teen benefits from attention. Instead of focusing solely on parenting techniques or solely on the teen's problems, teen-parent therapy focuses on the interactions between the parent and teen as a resource for well-being. Sure, adolescents are growing increasingly independent, but research continues to show that the parent-teen relationship is a critical source of well-being during this complex phase of life. In addition, Teen-Parent psychotherapy is a useful way for parents to learn how to extend the benefits of CBT from the session and into the home, what we refer to as 'therapeutic parenting'.
