Child Services (ages 0 - 12)

The Mindful Resource Center (MRC) is here to help kids achieve wellness

and actualize their potential... with lasting results.

MRC is an association of independent practioners. Using a private practice model specific to kids, MRC provides training and support for it's Clinicians and guides them in building, representing and managing their own child specialty practices based in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Depending on their phase of career, MRC Clinicians are also trained, guided and supported in developing and providing education about their strengths in the form of supervision, classes, groups, videos and blog posts.

Dr. Julie Hartman provides all initial phone intakes with parents to help determine their child's initial wellness plan and options. Included in that plan will be recommendations for providers, likely within MRC but also when appopriate, with our collagues in the community.

"I'm grumpy all the time lately, I'm tired of struggling with everything I do."

"My worries are getting worse, I hardly go to playdates anymore."

"My son has started refusing to go to school."

Welcome! So glad you're committed to your child's well-being! Dr. Hartman always says "Every child benefits from therapy, some kids need it". So, let's get your child the benefits... and see what he/she needs.

Child Psychotherapists require specialized training and experience. For instance, ages  6 and 16 years old will vary significantly in development phase, communication and comprehension abilities. Therapy tends to take between 12 - 50 sessions, sometimes more, sometimes less... sometimes involves the parent in the child's session, sometimes child alone with Practioner and parent(s) in separate consultation.

MRC Clinicians use a combination of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques, Psychoeducation, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness and Relationship techniques to help kids achieve the wellness they are seeking. These techniques have been shown in lots of research and clinical history to really work. And, everything is tailored for their age and stage of development, their particular needs as well as in line with each family 's culture and values.

Skills Groups

"I want to do group activities and learn at the same time."

"I' want to make friends with kids like me."

"I think my child will learn well in a class-like setting with like-minded children.

It's awesome you're exporing the role or classes or groups on your child's wellness path! Dr. Hartman often says "formal education helps kids grow-up to make a living, self-education helps kids have a great life." Classes and groups are both an affordable option and a positive way to pursue goals. A 'student-mindset' in classes and groups helps your child's brain orient toward learning... and new learning, especially combined with the types of exercises and practice that we provide using CBT, really helps develop more WELLNESS SKILLS.

Our MRC Clinicians provide classes and groups to kids that are fun, interactive and tailored to developmental age and stage. Most groups are based on Dr. Hartman's AMDCBT model and curriculum, whereby kids learn and practice a new skill every week. Examples of CBT-based skills are 'How Our Brains Work' (and we make model brains out of air-dry clay), 'Mindfulness' (i.e we make 'Mind Jars' out of plastic bottles, glitter and glue), 'Make Worry Appointments' (and we make worry boxes by decoupaging magazine clippings to old kleenex boxes). "I'm having a hard time with parenting... what should I do to make things better?

"I need help supporting my kids through this transition."

"My 5 year-old tantrums all the time. Is it me, him? Something needs to be done about it...

Bravo for making it this far on your quest for what's right for your child's well-being! Dr. Hartman frequently suggests consultation when you are not sure whether to do therapy, coaching, or another process in order to help your child with a specific problem. A consultant will help identify the key information and aid you in making a decision about next steps - called an ACTION PLAN.

Our MRC Clinicians provide consultation on the topics of parenting, life transitions and ways to support your child's CBT work. Consultation may involve one session, several sessions, and/or follow-up sessions in order to fine-tune the action plan. Just like you might consult your Physician about your migraines or recent vision changes, our MRC Clinicians are also Consultants who can help you determine a series of action steps to take to get to the bottom of things and do what's needed to support your child's wellness.
